Today me and my friend Ya Wei (Ya Vei, LOL I think only she will get what I mean, hopefully you read this ^^) volunteered for the SALVOS and we walked around Macgregor going up to people's houses asking for donations. Let me tell you a bit about the tiring but interesting day...
We met up at 8:30 and this guy who's been volunteering for the SALVOS for more than 20 years drove us, a small group of 5, to the places that we were to ask for donations.
Most of the houses we visited, the people were either not home or were still asleep (cos who wouldn't be sleeping in on a Sunday morning ._.) So with disappointed looks, we walked out of those driveways and moved on to the next house and the next. And gosh the day was hot!! Dx LOL knocking on people's doors are painful aye Ya Wei ;D Glad the ones I visited mostly have doorbells.
There were a few people who were a bit rude and one that I remembered well was a Chinese lady who came to the door, didn't even wait for me to finish before shooing me off saying "Busy, busy I'm busy!" And shut the door in my face. :/ Didn't even apologize nor say hi (I am disappointed)
Other than that some other houses with Asian owners didn't understand, which was fine, and I was able to explain to some of them in Chinese, and they were pretty nice people. But then there was this house that I went to, a Chinese guy answered me in perfect English, then his wife, behind him, told him in Chinese to "Just say you don't understand". So before he said anything to me, I went on speaking Chinese, staring at that lady, and LOL her face was priceless <3 xD she must be like, "FUUUUUUU why does this girl have to be Chinese?!" So in the end they gave me some coins.
I was happy to be greeted by nice older aged people who gave me notes and stuff and this guy even asked me to sit down and relax while he went in to get some change.. though of course I sat on the edge of the chair and quickly jumped up when he came out, just to be polite... but then he couldn't find any change so he wrote a cheque for me. At first I was like wow I wonder how much he's gonna write, maybe $100? But OK.. only $10, oh wells, not so bad xD
Overall I collected $83.45 (most at one house I got was $20) in less than 3 hours, and gained some experiences (So many rude Asians :/) ^^. Pretty good for my first volunteering work!
